Read the Researched Based Reading for this week . This research paper was written in the Fall of 1965. What has changed as it relates to the role of police in a democratic society since this paper was written? Has any of the research changed since it was written? Tell me about one of the court cases you found interesting and why? (Comments to this post due no later than Monday, 8/27/2018 at 8:00 AM.)

There is more technology like cameras that you wear, dash cameras and more helpful technology. In 1961, a state Supreme Court had a case that involved the rights of an officer to stop a suspicious man standing in an alley. The role now a days is most likely the same thing as back then just keeping the peace with the county or city whatever your over. You are also supposed to be on patrol and you can not go home until you are told to go home.

1.I believe the role of police has changed from a terrifying law enforcer part of the government to there own person to the point where we are no longer scared of them and even make friend with them, talk to them and basically treat them like a human being.
2. I also believe police can now enforce alot more of the law than before due to lack of resources I also think that a there has been a type of equilibrium established where the police can do there job and not be considered a public nuisance.
3. Finally a the case I found most interesting was Bargain City V. Dilworth mostly because I found it very upsurd to deny the selling of goods for a day because of a so called "Bargain City" in the outskirts instead of making it a thing to require to have a proper store to sell any goods and also require a more updated state permit to sell goods.

1.police have changed over the time I believe , back then there wasn’t a lot of understanding or communication between law enforcers and courts. Police would try to set they’re own rules or do what they do but courts would limit they’re authorities. As time went by courts and police have been coming to certain types of agreements of the law enforcing and court procedures.
2. I think some of the reasearch has changed because law enforcement has been growing and growing ever since and so have courts and lawyers. Police have been able to receive more things to help them in they’re daily shifts for example , material wise.
3. I found it interesting that the court had a cop explain to them why he had stopped and questioned a suspicious male by a private property . They talked about his rights as a cops and everything like that , and they also mentioned that the government of “laws” was made so that no man or civilian could take advantage of the power laws hold.

1) a change in values since then has changed
2) the research has changed in modern times due to technology
3) the case I found interesting is the one in Philadelphia in which you could not do business on a Sunday it was a very unique law in which I found has no purpose because people would go outside the town for goods.

1.) The role of police has changed by them getting more involved into the community where there is trust being built.
2.) I believe that things have changed since then because now there are a lot more resources and technology that is available for police then there was back then.
3.) I found the case of Escobedo v. Illinois interesting because it was the case that made it clear that there was a need of better communication between police officers and the court.

1There is increasingly adequate literature on the
responsibility of police for the development of law en- forcement policy. See for example LAFAvE, ARimT (Little, Brown & Co. 1965); GoLwsrTr, H., Police
Discretion: The Ideal Versus the Real, 23 PmLic AmL REv. 140 (1963); GoasTEmq, H., Guidelines for Effective Use of Police Manpower, 45 Puauc MAN- AGEmEr= 218 (1963); GoLzsTFaI, H., Police Discretion Not to Invoke the Criminal Process: Low Visibility Decisions in the Administration of Justice, 60 YALE L.J. 543 (1960); MviuNi & SWANSON, PouicE Discax- TION WrIH JUVENns, PO ICE Wom wrr CHMMEN, (U.S. Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare, Chil- dren's Bureau 1962); ABERNATHY, Police Discretion and Equal Protection, 14 S.C.L. 1:I think the role police change because in ancient society, police does not have a written laws and there's always some problems between them and the courts. Also they create their own policy rather than being given by the court. But in modern day, police had to memorize the laws which were given by the court.
2:I think the research had change since it was written because in today society, the cops were under the government and they also had so many better resources due to technology.
3:The interesting thing that i found in research was that how police were so afraid of telling their difficult tasks to public because it will be very hard for the cops to keep on silent while the citizens criticize about their weakness asnan officer.i think it also be very difficult for the cops when the citizens hated them.

I believe the role of police has changed from a terrifying law enforcement to a law enforcement that can actually try to understand everyone instead of being brutal to people of different kinds I also believe that police actually are enforcing that law because they have the resources they need.

1) I don’t think police itself has changed that much throughout the years but I do think that the laws have changed and that might have caused the police to become more strict about certain things.

2) I think a lot has changed since this article was written but a lot of it has to do with the government not police in general

3) The case I found interesting was the Philadelphia one, I find it really hard to understand why they would not let them do business on Sundays because at the end of the day they are the ones losing money.

1. I believe that the role of police officers has changed because the community model era started five years after this article was written and new technological development have occurred to create a more efficient police force in America. 2. The research from this article has changed due to new technology that creates new and unique circumstances for today's police officers. 3. The case that interested me the most was Bargain City V. Dilworth, because I did not understand why it was made illegal to sell gods on Sundays. Honestly, Sundays seem like the most convenient time to do trade because most people have that day off for church. It also did not make sense to me that the chief of police only decided to go after the shops that sold the most. That worries me because that is not fair and the law needs to be enforced fairly.

1) The role of police has changed since 1965 because we are in a new Era, this paper is 53 years old as well. Times have changed so has police, who serve the Community and are more efficient now.
2) The research has changed because there is more technology in the world and different problems than there used to be.
3) the Court Case that I thought was interesting was the “Sunday Blue law” case because They dismissed the case but the case right after this one the “ Federal Trade Commission” case contrasted this one. Which was very interesting.

1) The role of policeman has definitely changed because of technology, which makes LE more efficient than before. So many things happen in 53 years and it can only benefit us into knowing more than before.
2) I believe research has changed in a way of having, again, technological advances that help advance officers to being closer to documents and the government only making it quicker and easier.
3) The most interesting case was for sure Bargain City v. Dilworth because it seemed crazy that they wouldn’t want them to trade on sundays. Mostly everyone is off on sundays which seems like it would only make it easier on them to make money.

1. Police work has definitely changed over the years because of the technology, 53 years ago our technology wasn’t as advanced and we can trust the police now.
2. I believe it’s changed because the police force keeps growing and the bigger they get the more training and structure they have to have also I believe technology was a big part of the change.
3. The case I found interesting was the Bargain City vs. Dilworth because I found it unreasonable for them not to want to sell something to someone just because it was Sunday.

1. We have new technology/Equipment such as Police cameras, dash cams, tasers, etc
2. Police officers have a lot more rights then the research paper says
3. Escobedo v. Illinois7 said:We hold, therefore, that where, as here, the
investigation is no longer a general inquiry into
an unsolved crime but has begun to focus on a
particular suspect, the suspect has been taken
into police custody, the police carry out a process
of interrogations that lends itself to eliciting
incriminating statements, the suspect has re-
quested and been denied an opportunity to con-
sult with his lawyer, and the police have not
effectively warned him of his absolute constitu-
tional right to remain silent, the accused has
been denied "the Assistance of Counsel" in
violation of the Constitution, The suspect is suppose to know and be read all the Miranda Rights

1. I think the roles of police officers has changed because they communicate more with us and the courts so that makes us and the courts trust them a lot more.
2. Yes because police act and speak differently then they did when this was written.
3. In Pennsylvania they were not able to sell goods on Sundays and I found this interesting because the police commissioner took the side of the people and not the Pennsylvania legislature.

1 I feel like police officers and the courts changed to become more formal but I feel like the public has changed to look at the police in a bad light because of what the news feeds them so then the court is gonna have a difficult time talking to the police because of the media and the jury or ( judge) is gonna look at the police as the enemy 2 i feel like the research that has been changed is the way police act so they don’t provoke the public. 3 the case I found interesting was the bargain city vs dilworth because why would u sell something to someone based on the day of the week? Even tho it could give them more money

2.)Yes,research has changed as well because of the advanced technology the officers use to help them in their documents and it makes the communities life’s better and the governments
3.)The most interesting and surprising case to me was the “Bargain City V.Dilworth” , because no one was allowed to sell or trade on Sunday’s which that day is one the day everyone in town goes out to buy something or at least back then trade as well too but it was very hard for me to understand why they would do that to the community and i assume that made some the profit that business owners had went down

Policeman have became more comfortable with the public over the last few years and it's made their lives and our lives more easier to develop some type of trust in the community and in the police work force myself and yes the one I find more interesting more than the others is the one in Philadelphia where your not allowed to work on Sunday because some people like it and others don't personally I like it because as a Christian Sunday is where you take a break from work it's a very chill day it's where you can just relax and then think about the week that is upcoming.

1) Over the past 53 years, the role of police and law enforcement officers has changed for the better. We’re slowly starting to build trust that wasn’t there before.
2) Yes, I believe things have changed since then because our technology and techniques have advanced. Instead of creating their own policies, officers are trained to memorize the law of the land.
3) One of the court cases i found interesting was Escobedo vs. Illinois because it helped better the lack of communication in the system.

I believe the roll of police officers has changed in a good and bad way mostly for people discriminating and people of race back in the olden days(around 1950) they used to just beat people for no reason some still do but it has changed in a good way where they don’t do that and they know their rights

1) The role of police has changed on account of many things. For one law enforcement now has more resources and technology, better communication amount the public and courts, and also a better structure on how to run their business in law enforcement. They are generally more aware and informed about their role and job as to how it relates and their responsibilities.
2) Yes the research has changed because not only has technology grown, so has law enforcement. They are now better and trained for their field. Law enforcement is not the same compared to how it used to be so this research has changed as well.
3) One of the court cases I found interested was the one involving an officer and a person in an alley under suspicious circumstances. Unfortunately the department was in no position to present which reflects on back on the court case and not allow a fair case to agrue. The police department did not have a clear policy or prectipr which reflects on how they do their job. If they were more reliable and responsible then the case would've blown the other direction and would be handled with proper action.

2.a lot of things have changed since this was written such as technology and the way officers get the task assigned done

1. I believe law enforcement has changed from a more government rule to being respected equally because they are police officers and they are the protection in our communities
2. The greatest change was definitely the advancement of technology and how we choose to use that technology. Also many techniques have been improved that is how the police officers handle situations
3. I found Escobedo vs. Illinois the most interesting because of that case the communication got stronger with them and the community.

1. Police has changed over time by the way they communicate with the courts. Back then police didn’t listen much to courts and would try to do their own thing. There is also more trust between us and police.
2. Back then their resources weren’t as good as today’s do to their lack of technology.

1. It depicts the police as hiding lots of things from the people because of fear of being discharged or put on media which is really similar to what happens today. I think the depiction of police is definitely a bit different from today but the role to protect and serve should still be there.

2. I don’t have a clue how research has changed.

3. I found the article about the police chief not enforcing the curfew policy and saying that the people’s kids have been out past curfew but nothing bad happened interesting because the news article the next day completely humiliates him by asking if the force is enforcing the law or the people’s thoughts.

The role of police hasn’t really changed just evolved or adapted to modern society. For example community policing; Police are still there to enforce the law but in these times it’s important tht the officer is involved in the community and builds trust with a society that looks at police as the enemy.
In Escobedo v. Illinois the lack of communication in the court system was exposed, and therefore corrected
