Yesterday, September 11, 2016, marked the 15 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in New York City. On the assignments page, http://www.mrdickson.net/assignments.html, or at the bottom of this blog are a few articles about 9/11. For your response to this blog, please answer the following questions: How have the events of 9/11 and its aftermath shaped what it means to be an American? How have the events of 9/11 impacted your life or your family unit? Consider the actions the government has taken after these events, how it changed people's lives and how you think of yourself living in a post-9/11 America. What more can we do to honor the fallen? Or should we do more?

My mother told me about 9/11 when was a kid they told me they were afraid and that she went to me and my brother and sister to protect us. She thought they going everywhere to hurt people at random. Then few years later my grandparents told me about 9/11 that's when i started to understand it better of what happen. My grandfather dose not like to ride plans because of 9/11 he even he is scare till this very day because of it. I think we do an event for the fallen that risk their lives to save as many people as they can, and not be it 9/11 and dont do anything and i bet those people that risk their lives to go in those two building were scare. But they had the courage and went in and saved as people and get away from the buildings as far as possible.

9/11 changed our economy drastically. Since the incidence occurred, our government has changed the way people are searched when entering buildings or planes and how much freedom we have as Americans. Also, the event has changed people’s lives completely too where some are afraid to fly because the incident could happen again. Our government is now more secure about how they let people aboard planes and building and what they let them take along with them. I think to honor the fallen, 9/11 should be a holiday where businesses and schools are closed, giving families time to be together. Also, giving families of those who were killed a day to themselves to grieve.

9/11 is a very memorable day since it changed people's lives in many ways, especially because Americas freedom felt threatened. My sister told me about her experience that day, she mentioned being in school and watching the second plane crash live on tv. She said it was a very scary moment. Over 3,000 persons died that day. The impact it caused on the people and the government, led to drastic measures. After this, troops were sent to Afghanistan and I feel like we should really honor those who risked their life for the citizens by always remembering the strength and courage it took for them to stand up and fight for us.

9/11 changed a lot of people's lives some for good and other not so much. My coach told me about it. He said it was a crazy day he was teaching and all of sudden he started getting alerts and stuff. A lot of people died that day for standing up for America and we should honor them for thay

My parents first told me about 9/11 when I was about 7 because when it actually occurred I was too young to realize exactly what was going on. Most people don't realize what freedom really is, it's going to bed safe, working in a safe environment, eating whenever they want. 9/11 helped strengthen those freedoms. Usually my family gets together at a certain families house for the whole day. We pray, eat, and celebrate our gratitude to the fallen and fighting U.S. soldiers. People certainly felt like their freedom was in danger and how they felt about the fight against terrorism. We can hold a fundraiser to help the homeless vets get food and water and eventually a place to call home, we could pray for the now adults who have lost their parents during the catastrophe.

When 9/11 occurred, I wasn't in the United States, I was in Mexico. I found out about 9/11 when I was 8 years old. I don't recall any way 9/11 affected my family. My father was in the USA when it occurred though. Maybe once 9/11 occurred, people began to stand together and felt united. "Thorught thick and thin, we will stand together." I herd of a story about workers rebuilding One World Trade Center. A man fell "x" number of stories. He didn't shed a tear, nor went to the hospital, all he said was, "Someone get me a smoke and lets continue." The attack and rebuilding of the center united the people, american pride. Measures of security were taken. The TSA was established; Homeland Security and the PATRIOT Act was also something that the government established.

The immediate moments after 9/11 occured the pride to be an American rose among the American population. To many it brought out the sense of pride that many had forgotten or neglected. Whenever this tragic event took place, I was only 2 years old. Therefore this event didn't impact my life directly. Mainly because i don't remember any of it. It also didn't impact any of my immediate family. This event, however, did impact many of the peoples everyday life. For example, security in airports became more strict and a lot more security measures were taken before boarding a plane and the NSA was also founded and given a much bigger budget in order to protect the people. All of these events didn't impact me much because i was too young to remember what life was before 9/11. However, I do believe that we should always honor the people who lost their lives that day and always pay our respects by always remembering them.

I believe the events of 9/11 and its aftermath have shaped what it means to be American in many different ways. I think the events caused other countries to realize that America can recover from any and all adversities that come our way because we are one of the greatest countries on the world to this date. Being an American now, to me, means being strong, and never forgetting what other countries or forces have done to us to try and weaken us. Being an American to me means that you have the choice to defend and fight for your country, but also having the right to allow others to do it for you. The events of 9/11 has impacted me and my family's lives because it is much more difficult to get through airport security than it was before September 11th in 2001. I don't think there could be anything more we could do to honor the fallen because we as a nation do a great job of doing that already. I think of myself living in a post 9/11 America as a good thing. Though these events were terrible and should have never even been thought of, we as a nation have become much stronger as a whole. As well as airport security, our government has also made it harder to cross the borders coming into our country because of national security.

Before 9/11 the people in the U.S. didn't take as many percautions as they do now. After the incident at the world trade center, I noticed in videos that I've watched throughout the year, that the U.S. security has been more prioritized. Americans stand more united and refuse to ever go down the way they did. My family and I had only been living in the U.S. for a few years when the 9/11 terrorist attack happened. It of course freightened my parents a bit and made them sad for the families who lost loved ones. Every year we remember those who fell and those who helped the fallen. Even though it is just one day a year, I'm sure most Americans still have them in mind year round. They have them in prayer and still honor them for the things they did.

i was only three when the planes struck the towers so i don't really remember it. But I do remember my mom crying as she watched it on the news. To be an American after 9/11 means to fight abd stand up for your country in order to protect it and everyone in it. it effected my family personally because we have lots of first responders in our family and some of them went got there as soon as they could to help. The government's actions have effected us in a big way because they monitor everyone a lot more closely then what they did before. I think it's a good thing they the government watches more closely so that something like that can be prevented or less tragic in the future.

The response to 9/11 was very strong we, as a country, came together and bonded to fight against terrorism against our country. The initial months preceding 9/11 were very hard due to the mass casualties and the clean up took a lot of time and many volunteers to help. I keep the families of the victims in my prayers still to this day because no innocent human being should have to perish over a tragedy as such. I remember my dad going out a couple weeks after 9/11 and buying this polo that has a picture of the twin towers on the left side of the shirt and an American flag on the other side, and still to this day he still has that same shirt and he recently bought a long sleeve shirt to go with the shirt he bought 15 years ago. I commend the government on building the monument in New York City to honor the fallen and to remember such an amazing monument that people remember so vividly. You would look up pictures of the twin towers and see them in the background standing so tall and the Statue of Liberty in front of them standing tall as well. In a way I feel like the government can never do too much to honor the fallen just because the seriousness around that day and how it seriously impacted the lives of very many people. 9/11 will always be a memorable day in United States history, I remember a part of a song that is sung by Toby Keith and it says this "Justice will be served and the battle will rage this big dog will fight when you rattle his cage and you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A." He wrote this song a year after 9/11 happened and I think the message he wanted to get across was that nobody should mess with America because of the power that we hold no one can stand against us even in times of despair we still stand strong. "One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty, and Justice for All."

Since 9/11 I believe that we have become a much stronger nation. We will never forget the events that happened on that day, but we have found our own ways of healing. 9/11 had no effect on my family directly, but it has called for tighter security and it has caused people to be more cautious, which are nationwide effects. As a nation, we have become more safe. Although there is no way to stop violence completely, I believe that after 9/11, the government realized that we need to be ready for another attack if it should ever happen. The government has since tried to build more trust with the citizens of this country. Everybody honors those lost during 9/11 in different ways, and I think that we do a very good job of remembering and honoring the events that occurred on that day.

I have been told many times about 9/11, but I don't remember any of what happened that day because I was so young. I think that 9/11 has some what shaped what it means to be an American. It brought the country together to support each other in whatever happened. It brought people together because it showed people that tomorrow is never promised, so they need to be there for each other. I don't think that the events of 9/11 impacted my family directly. I know that none of my family was in New Tork when it happened, but I don't know if any of my family couldn't get home because of all the flights being grounded after it happened. One way that America changed after 9/11 is the airports. My mom has told me many times how it used to be a lot easier to get through the airport but now it takes forever because of security and bag checks. We should always honor the fallen of 9/11; we should honor all fallen officers and first responders for that matter.

My parents never really explained to me what 9/11 was, neither did I ever ask. So I just learned from classes and the internet. I believe in 9th grade was when a teacher showed a video of actual footage taken on the day. But it was only of the buildings falling and people running for their lives. I remember wanting to see more. So I searched it on Youtube that night and actually saw the planes crash into the buildings. It had me shaking and scared. The video even showed the people that were at the tops of the buildings jump out of them because there was no other way down. I know that securities in airports have gotten much more strict from that day. We as Americans would never want to see a terrorist attack like that again. Or any other terrorist attack for that matter. To those that had their lives taken on that day, we should always remember.

As a American it really hasn't changed me. I was little when it happened so I don't know the difference before or after it happened. It really changed how we see the world as Americans because of the fact that things can go good to bad fast. The u.s took measures to keep us safe but I think the world safe has been used a little too strongly.By honoring are fallen we all as Americans should help by making them fell welcome. Just to make sure their not struggling.

9/11 has changed this country drastically in many ways including searching bags at airports. Before the event happened people could get as far as the gate to say goodbye to loved ones bording a plane. However post 9/11 you can't even get past the carry on check point. The event changed people but it did not change me, I was too little to even remember it happening. It has made the USA want to make the world safer but sometimes as a country we go into issues we have no business in. I personally do not think there is anything more we should do or could do to honor the victims to a cruel event. Those family could have been any of us.

The events of 9/11 shaped American’s to be more caring and careful. It has also impacted my family by making us more around of our surroundings. I think the government is trying really hard to protect us from terrorist attacks which I believe is a really good thing. I think we feel a lot safer. What more can we do to honor the fallen? Nothing. We can’t express how thankful we are for them even if we tried.

Personally I don't remember 9/11. I was told about it when i was small. I have seen videos which help me understand what happened. I feel deeply sorry for the family's who lost loved ones. Every year on 9/11 I go to a memorial service at the landmark bank. Most of the people there were old enough to remember seeing it on TV. I can see the despair on all of their faces. America has responded by making security more advanced and adding more protection at place like airports. The people of america are so worried that it will happen again that we will do anything to stop it. It hasn't really impacted my life. But I that's mostly because I live really far away. Even though it hasn't effected me it will be remembered by Americans forever.

I was never old about 9/11 until I was in high school. I believe 9/11 scared America because now we have double security in airports. Before we didnt have to take off our shoes or even have full body scans. It caused wars because the US invaded Afghanistan afterwards to eliminate the El Qaeda group. It also impacted California. 9/11 made people more cautious and more aware of there surrounding.

The effect and aftermath of 9/11 changed many people's lives, communities, and economies. I had found out about 9/11 really through the news from my teachers. However, I was not old enough to really understand what had happened. It did not really impact mine or my family's lives directly. The actions the government took after this incident was that they changed ways of how they looked at people in airports or through security. Furthermore, it changed people's lives because so many families had lost their loved ones. I see myself honoring the victims every year and remembering them post 9/11. I hope others will honor and remember them like myself. People otherwise should remember them for their strength and courage. The victims will always be remembered.

The events on 9/11 changed what it meant to be an American by showing no matter how hard we get hit, we'll get back up and hit back hard like we did in the 1940's. I meant that Americans will come together to help a fellow American even if they're across the country. The events didn't impact my family too much. The only thing that it did was make my dad see fighter jets flying around in the sky. The way it changed our life was the government made the security at airport much more strict when trying to get on an airplane. I don't know what else we could do to honor the lives lost because of the attacks. I think that we should do more so that no one will ever be able to forget what happened on that tragic day.

The events of 9/11 had a big impact on a lot of Americans lives. I remember when I was little my mother was trying to explain to my sisters what had happened but I was too young to really understand. All I remember as a kid is that it was a sad day. After reading some of the attachments to this blog I realize, to this day how much our country still remembers the ones lost on that day. Through charities and shelters many donations are given and received to help the ones who need it.Every year on September 11, in every state there are gatherings of people to remember those who were lost that day. It means a lot to be an American and the way we recognize 9/11 shows it very deeply. From this event the government had to change a lot of things to help Americans feel more secure. Now when you go to the airport the security check process is much more thorough than before. Even though 9/11 did not effect my family directly it still hurts to know how many families lost a loved one that day and I completely support honoring the lives lost and the policemen/firemen who helped out that day.

The response of 9/11 was something huge. As Americans we came together and honored those that died protecting us. The government has done a lot to make everything more secure, such as changing everything about airport security and even school security. It impacted us in more ways than we realize and we should always remember the attacks and honor those who died. Although I was only a few years old at the time of the attacks, it still has a huge impact on my life today. The day it happened, my parents both came home from work early. And now each year, on 9/11, my parents and I watch a documentary over it and we are reminded of how tragic it was. Even though it didn't effect my family directly, I do realize that so many lost fathers, mothers, husband and wives, children and grandchildren and continue to live with that pain to this day. As nation we have become much stronger and united, but it is so unfair to many that something so awful is what had to bring us together.

The events of 9/11 brought back an American spirt that can only happen when we all come together to get through a hard time. Because of 9/11 the government increased significantly, maybe even too much. I think that 9/11 scared americans, and now living in a post 9/11 world you can see that many americans are afraid of attack and terrorism more than ever. So many innocent lives were taken on that day, they didn't do anything wrong, they were just going to work. I think the best thing to do as an american is to remember them and try our best to keep them in our hearts.

I feel like we gain a sense of American pride especially when something traumatic happens. I don't really know my family don't express how we feel about that day but I take a moment and think about the ones who were effected by that tragedy. It has changed people's lives by having a day to remember the loss of American people who had no idea that was going to happen to them that day. I think that some people began to accept their lives a little more. There is really nothing more that we can do to honor the fallen.
