Lisa Quest contributed the following article to Forbes.
{"Did you know it takes only three to five seconds for someone to form a first impression? And while you might wish that opinion were based on your intelligence or experience, most studies show that first impressions are shaped by what can be seen or heard in those initial few seconds. Harvard Business School social psychologist, Amy Cuddy, has studied first impressions and found that when meeting someone for the first time, we form not one impression, but two. “We’re judging how warm and trustworthy the person is, and that’s trying to answer the question, ‘What are this person’s intentions toward me?’ And we’re also asking ourselves, “How strong and competent is this person?’” states Cuddy. Her research shows that these two traits, trustworthiness and confidence, account for 80 to 90 percent of first impressions. “First impressions matter when you want to build a lasting trust,” says Robert Lount, an assistant professor at Ohio State University. “If you get off on the wrong foot, the relationship may never be completely right again. It’s easier to build trust after a breach if you already have a strong relationship.”} What impression are you creating? Why are first impressions so important? What first impressions do you believe you have made for the first week of school as it relates to your attitude and work product (provide examples or tell us a story)? What would you change about the first impressions you have already made this past week?

I'm not really trying to create a great impression. I'm just in speech class because we have to have the credit for the class to graduate. But from what I was taught, first impressions are pretty important. They determine how the person you're trying to make an impression on act towards you. The impression I think I put on Mr. Dickson is pretty neutral. I don't really talk in class or disrupt it either. Although one time I did start playing a game on my friends ipad for a moment before getting told not to do that in class. That's not normal for me anyway. I usually don't like breaking rules. I guess I would have changed the impression by not playing on the ipad. Mr. Dickson makes it pretty clear that if you respect him, he respects you back.

I believe that first impressions are extremely important. If some ones first Impression is bad it can highly damage the relationship you may have with the person.

First impressions are extremely important, a bad one can lead to a lot of things it could damage future realtionships. I would change a couple of first impressions I've had but not many I mostly come off as a genuine person

I feel that first impressions are very important. Mainly, because how you treat others when you first meet, are how they are going to treat you. I aim to treat others with respect so that I am treated with the same respect. I hope I have come across with a positive impression, as I think it is very important that others have a positive attitude throughout the school year. I think I have left a good impression on Mr. Dickson so far. Even though I haven't gotten much of a chance to truly do so. I wouldn't change any of the impressions I have already made so far because I feel like they are very neutral.

First impressions are super important, though I'd say most people tend to not show their full potential when meeting someone new or applying for a job. When you want to leave a good impression on someone you must come prepared. For example, applying for a job and you go into the interview. When you go into the interview are you going to go wearing shorts and plain shirt and sandals? Hopefully everyone would say no, instead they would most likely say that a nice dress shirt, slacks and dress shoes would be a great outfit for a job interview, or for the higher level jobs a suit would be a great idea to wear. When speaking to your future boss, you would speak in a very professional way showing that your communication skills are high and it shows that you are very educated. But when you use "slang" if I were the boss it would show me that maybe your vocabulary isn't cut out for the job ahead. The importance level is very high for first impression and you only get one so you must make the best of the opportunity and make it count.

I think that I am creating good first impressions. First impressions are extremely important because if you don't give someone a good first impression they might never give you a chance to prove yourself to them. For the first week of school I think I made great impressions for our new basketball coach and my teachers. The impressions I think that I made were that I am respectful, polite, and hardworking. The thing I would change about the impressions I had from the first week of school would be that I am really shy because sometimes during a first impression I think that it makes me come off as closed off to people, but I'm not. It just takes me a little while to be comfortable with people.

I think my first impression give off the wrong type of impression cause people always think im angry when im really not, I guess it's because i always have this mean mug on my face. First impressions can tell a person a lot of things about you, it can determine if someone wants to talk to you or even attempt to be your friend. I really dont think I made a bad or good impression ,I think i made an okay impression with my teacher's I usually just keep to myself. I only thing I'd try to change is my facial expressions.

First impressions are a good way to either start a "Hello" or "Goodbye" and mine is a "Goodbye". I provide a tone that is serious and maybe no one likes that. In the first week of school, it was just like any other day after it was over. I guess I saw myself as just another person so I gave a serious look or impression. I am not usually a fan on showing what I feel or anything that I don't want others to see. I don't care for it but maybe by the "first impression"; I am jealous of people who can make a good impression to get a simple "Hello" to a phone number. I am not that person as I said. To me first impression matter only to a specific person.

I think that some of the first impressions during the first week were what I wanted them to be. I showed most if not all of my teachers that I would do the work they ask of me. What I've learned is that if you just do what the teachers ask you high school life goes so much smoother. I do not think I gave any of my teachers a bad first impression. Especially for teachers, they really make first impressions to see who their trouble makers will be. If you show yourself as a trouble maker the teacher will grade you more thoroughly and tougher. You do not have to be q teachers pet. Teachers pets go to far with all of it. Even if you do the least amount of work for a class that you can do there will more than likely be someone who does less than you. Once your teacher gets their first impression it is hard to change what they think of you. So be sure to give the very best first impression you can with everybody that you meet.

I try to create an impression with many complex traits. Though first impressions are subjective, I believe they definitely make a difference in the relationships that you establish. I intend to create the impression that I am quiet, determined, and focused on what I plan to achieve. I try to get across to other people that I am into fashion and art by the clothes that I wear. I don't like loud, obnoxious, and unnecessary noises if they can be avoided, hence my quietness. This ties in with my focus and me being determined on what I want to accomplish in life. First impressions can be important because it determines if you get off on the right foot with a person. If they dislike you based off of your first impression then they will bash on your reputation to other people that you have yet to meet as well. First impressions can improve or be deleterious to other first impressions. The first impressions I believe I have made this first week of school are that I am a positive attitude, and hard working student. That I am determined to succeed. I wouldn't change anything about the first impressions I've made if I could because like I said, first impressions are subjective. I could care less what someone thinks about me or how they feel about me, if negative, because I am focused on self-improvement and success.

I think I give off a pretty good impression. I aim to come off as sure of myself and I think I do that well. First Impressions are very important when it comes to finding a job, you don't want to come off the wrong way when you are being interviewed by your future boss. In a social setting first impressions are still significant but they are not everything. I think for my first week of school I gave a good impression on my teachers, especially Mr. Walton, because of how I treated my work on the first week of school he now expects great things from me. I wouldn't really change anything about my first week of school.

First impressions are important because what if somebody walked up to you in some bad clothes and messy hair, or just acted weird in general. You most likely wouldn't want to see them again. The same oohing occurs with job interviews. If you she up wearing your regular Saturday night clothes you're probably not gonna get hired. You need to look presentable and ready for whatever task is set in front of you. My first impressionsemester were just smiles and there's not much I would change about it.

I try to give off a warm and friendly first impression. I want people to know that I am very kind and accepting. I think that it's very important that people get an accurate idea of who you are when you first meet them. First impressions can affect relationships. I think that it's easiest when both people are just trying to be themselves, because a first impression can help people decide if they want to continue getting to know the other person. When you are confident and you don't try to be something that you're not, you will more than likely create a good first impression. While meeting new people during the first week of school, I tried to be friendly and outgoing. I wouldn't change any of the first impressions that I've made because, I felt comfortable being myself, and I don't want to try to be anything else.

I try to create a warm, friendly first impression to people. However, sometimes when they look at me, they think different because of my facial expression. First impressions are very important. Even if it's meeting new people or getting a job interview. If you don't give a great first impression, then you're likely to start on the wrong end. I think my first impression on my first week of school was great comparing to my attitude and work. I do my work on time, follow the rules, and never have any problems with teachers. I think that I would like to change my procrastination on homework problem. I feel like if I don't procrastinate on doing my homework, I would get it done earlier and have more time.

I believe that first impressions are very important. This is because they usually determine the go with the person you are trying to impress. However the importance of first impressions vary from sitution to situation. In some instances your life depends on the first impression you give and in others you just hope you gave a good one but if you didn't, it won't really matter. I aim to give an impressions that shows that I'm confident, determined and easygoing. However If someone ends up not liking me that doesn't really bother me. I don't really care what others think of me. This first week I tried to give an impression that I'm a hard working and consentious student. In other words i like to get my work done and pay attention in class. I think I made a very good impression on Mr. Atwood, my science teacher because I was respectful and I got my work done. As far as first impressions go, I'm confident that I gave pretty good ones. Therefore I wouldn't change any first encounters in my first week of school.

When giving my first impression I always try to show that I am understanding and kind. This first week of school I think I made a good impression in my classes by actually paying attention and getting my work done. Also showing up early for practice every day for cross country. I don't really have something I'd like to change, but I guess there's always room for improvement.

I apologize for this being late (I forgot where the blog was). I want to set an impression as nice and caring.firsy impressions are important because it gives people an idea of how the friendship will work. I tried being nice and hardworking as my first impression for the first week of school and I'll continue to stay that way. I wouldn't change anything.

I believe that I give off a positive first impression. First impressions are so important because they basically define how your interactions with that person will be. It's very hard to change a person opinion about you once you have a bad first impression. I hope that I gave a great impression to my teachers. My work productivity wasn't the best because I didn't turn everything on time but I hope to improve.

I believe that first impressions mean a lot. When I first meet someone I look towards the future. How is this person going to effect me and my life by getting involved. We make first impressions all the time. At school, interviews, friends parents and others. I always try my best to present myself as confident when first meeting someone. Throughout the first week of school I always try to make sure I leave a good first impression with all of my teachers. I do this so that they will get to know my personality and realize that I am trying and not just siting in the class because I have to take it.

I believe that the first impression I'm creating is that I'm very tall. And very chill. But I can be serious when I need to be. I believe that people understand that when I have music my work production increases s lot. One thing that I would like to change is the reputation that I have in this school. And during my senior year I'm goin to try to change that reputation for the better.

In order to make a good first impression you need to think about creating a certain aspect, I'm not saying changing the way you are or look but trying to come across as a positive person will certainly help with a future relationship you want to have with someone. First impressions are extremely important when it comes to job interviews or a person that you look up to. I would like for people to think of me as someone responsable and independent, such as hardworking and determined, and hopefully throughout the school year I can demonstrate it.

First impressions are important because they can determine how that person may see you from that point on. I try to create the impression that I'm joyful and agreeable. The first week of school I believe I made an okay impression by staying focused to the teachers set of rules. I wouldn't change any impressions i made the first week of school.
