We could consider performing a revision to part or all of the NTDA Constitution and By-Laws to ensure it is the most effective for the future of the organization. This could include how we run each event, including the allowance of cross-entries in events that would not adhere to the current UIL Conflict Pattern. Some of the more detailed discussion items that could change the NTDA Constitution and By-Laws are mentioned below.
Due to UIL schedule changes to windows of competition for One Act Play, we could consider moving our tournament (for a trial one-year period) to the first or second week of May 2018. Additionally, this may be a great way for the tournament to serve as a UIL State prep or NSDA National prep tournament because it falls at the mid-point between UIL Academic Regional and UIL Speech and Debate State.
We could consider ways to improve the tournament structure by ensuring we have a multiple-day tournament for future championships and adding additional preliminary rounds. Additionally, we could consider adding non-scholarship events that could include events such as PFD, Duo, DI and HI.
We could review effective ways to establish a boundary for the organization to allow for growth and to encompass current membership. In addition, the name of our organization should reflect our membership; therefore, boundaries are essential to ensure the integrity of our organizational name. Current ideas of discussion may include Education Service Center boundaries as a way to maintain clear and distinct boundaries to prevent arbitrary gerrymandering.
We could work to ensure we are sending communication to the organization via a regular newsletter to highlight the accomplishments of our members. Additionally, we could consider recognizing our students and member coaches with Student of the Month Awards and Coach of the Month Awards which could culminate into a Student of the Year and Coach of the Year honors at our annual tournament.
We could consider enhancing the current annual training offered by the organization by adding videos, podcasts, discussion boards, curriculum, and other mediums for information to be disseminated for coaches to enhance or improve their skills across our membership. This also provides opportunities for recruitment of potential membership. This could also include opportunities for judge training.
We could consider ways to ensure historical information and documents for the organization, such as minutes, are maintained in the most efficient manner. Additionally, we want to consider the history of our organization and ensure honors achieved by members of our organization are maintained well into the future.
